Birth & Postpartum Doula.
Hi, I’m Maura O’Shea. I live in Tramore, Co. Waterford and I’m a proud mother of two teenagers.
My interest in becoming a Birth Doula began years ago when working as a voluntary breastfeeding counsellor. Over the years, I have listened to many mums talking about their birth experiences and the effects a positive birth had on their health and well-being. Often these mums found it easier to get breastfeeding off to a good start which in turn increased their confidence as they began their mothering journey.
This experience coupled with my love for working with mothers and babies, encouraged me to pursue my ambition of becoming a Doula and so in March 2018, I attended my DONA International Birth Doula Training in Dublin and I’m currently working towards my certification and will attend Postpartum Doula Training with Ann Grauer in October. I am also currently studying for a Diploma in Reflexology and Holistic Massage.
Research shows that many women who have the support of a Doula during labour tend to have shorter labours, less interventions and a more positive birth experience. This can be such an empowering event and my goal is to help empower you to make informed decisions towards the birth you desire in a supportive, compassionate and non-judgemental way.
